The president of Tamaqua Transfer & Recycling, Inc., Larry Wittig leads the company, which collects, recycles, and disposes of community waste. In addition, Larry Wittig is a managing partner of Wittig CPA's. In addition, he makes time to serve as president of the Tamaqua Area School Board.
The Tamaqua Area School District is a public school district located in Eastern Pennsylvania and is home to many exceptional teachers. Among them is Michele Bittner, a teacher at West Penn Elementary School, who was named a finalist for the 2020 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award. A fifth-grade English teacher, Ms. Bittner is one of 12 finalists from the state and one of four finalists from the local region. Nominations for the PA Teacher of the Year Award can be submitted by students, parents, peers, or community members who want to honor exceptional educators for their dedicated work in the classroom. A lifelong resident of Tamaqua, Ms. Bittner said she takes great pride in representing her hometown and educating students in the same district where she grew up. One of her students, Kira Koch, told the local paper that she enjoys going to school because she knows Ms. Bittner will always be there to support her.
