A national professional association of CPAs, AICPA organizes a multitude of educational programs to support its members and promote the accounting profession. Recently, AICPA held its 25th annual Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop (ASLW), which 99 minority college students completed. An annual, all-expenses-paid program designed for racial and ethnic minority students who are interested in an accounting career, the ASLW focuses on developing students’ professional and networking skills as they receive an introduction to the benefits of pursuing a career in the field of accounting. The event included engaging panel discussions, as well as workshops aimed at preparing participants to take the CPA exam. The program accepts applications from Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Asian students who are majoring in accounting, finance, or tax and have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The TASD Board recently announced the names of the individuals who have been selected to serve on its security commission. The task of the security commission is to provide thoughtful guidance on the best steps for managing security risks and ensuring student safety throughout the district. Comprised of first responders, faculty members, school board directors, and parents, the security commission includes prominent community leaders such as Tamaqua Police Chief Henry Woods, Tamaqua Fire Chief Jim Connely, and West Penn Chief Brian Johnson. Mr. Wittig, who is also a member of the security commission, said he expects it will take at least four months for the commission to develop a comprehensive new safety policy for the district. |
