A prominent business executive based in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, Larry Wittig leads the waste disposal and recycling operation Tamaqua Transfer & Recycling Inc. Also the managing partner of Wittig CPAs in Tamaqua, Larry Wittig maintains membership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
A national professional association of CPAs, AICPA organizes a multitude of educational programs to support its members and promote the accounting profession. Recently, AICPA held its 25th annual Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop (ASLW), which 99 minority college students completed. An annual, all-expenses-paid program designed for racial and ethnic minority students who are interested in an accounting career, the ASLW focuses on developing students’ professional and networking skills as they receive an introduction to the benefits of pursuing a career in the field of accounting. The event included engaging panel discussions, as well as workshops aimed at preparing participants to take the CPA exam. The program accepts applications from Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Asian students who are majoring in accounting, finance, or tax and have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA.
