A certified public accountant with more than four decades of experience, Larry Wittig remains active in his community through board positions with several associations and organizations. Larry Wittig presides over the Tamaqua Area School Board and is a former chairman of the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board (LSWIB).
The LSWIB aims to promote industry-aligned workforce development initiatives to support and sustain a qualified local workforce. One way the LSWIB contributes to building a local talent pool is through its Youth Program. The program targets at-risk teens and adolescents who have experienced financial or situational hardships. Programs are available to assist high school students as well as youth not involved in education or employment. Participants receive academic support, on-the-job training opportunities, and wraparound services to improve their employability and secure their economic future. LSWIB also encourages soft skill development by involving participants in service-learning projects and providing opportunities to mentor or tutor peers.
